The semiconductor industry is growing rapidly in the global technology market. Revenue from semiconductor applications worldwide reached a record 480 billion. The use of different types of devices is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. And the demand for chips for these devices is growing at a very high rate. Therefore, chip production is an important step for the manufacturer of parts for domestic technology. Bangladesh can also contribute to the global semiconductor industry if the domestic chip maker is formed. Industry insiders estimate that Bangladesh is currently earning upto $5 million from the industry in a year while neighboring India is earning around $60 billion annually. The positive side of the industry is that the market is still untapped. Around 50 lakh workers are involved in the RMG sector and earning $40 billion dollars. But if we can bring only one lakh engineers into the VLSI design sector, we will be able to earn around $40 billion. But, now on average, 20,000 students come out of university studying Computer Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) subjects in the country. But, only around 30 people come to the VLSI industry. Even though people are gradually coming to this industry, the number is quite low. So, if we can ensure proper human resources for this industry then Bangladesh will be able to bring more money than what RMG is currently bringing.
